Christie Benet was a lawyer and an outstanding leader who served his city, his state and nation. Among the many places he served was as a Life Trustee of Clemson College. He was elected in 1929, and in 1949 he became Chairman of the Board. Despite his long service these papers are limited primarily to the period 1946-1951.
There is a nine page history of the society written by J.M. Napier which focuses upon its early years and gives some genealogical information about its members. Also, a three page account of the 97th annual meeting of the Society at which Dr. R.F. Poole introduced the topic of discussion, 'The Farmer's Part in the War Effort', also written by Napier.
This collection consists mainly of material compiled by J. C. Littlejohn for a history of Clemson College. He died before completing this project. It is a rich source of documentation on every aspect of Clemson, from information on the Calhoun and Clemson families to student life and college administration.
